The BIA, Bioimpedance analysis, provides custom readings for every user. The BIA measures body composition by sending a safe low frequency signal throughout the body from the 4 electrodes in the scale base. This signal travels through the liquid of muscle tissues but runs into fatty tissue resistance. This resistance, called bioimpedance, is accurately measured. The results are adapted according to sex, height and weight of the user in order to obtain a personalized reading of body fat and composition.

BIA accuracy depends on the number and size of electrodes on the base. Four electrodes are needed to ensure maximum accuracy in body fat readings. Tanita has tested over 100,000 users of all weights, sizes, genders and ages to ensure maximum accuracy.
